Hey y’all, my name is Jenna and welcome to Cooking in the South, a southern comfort food blog based in Raleigh, North Carolina.
Thanks so much for stopping by and taking a moment to learn a bit about me! I was born and raised in Raleigh, North Carolina, a fast-growing city in the Southern United States. Although Raleigh natives are becoming a rare breed nowadays (we are now one of the FASTEST growing cities in America), I prefer to stick to my roots and will never forget the classic southern recipes my family made like mac & cheese, jambalaya, and pecan pie.
Feeding people makes me happy and the kitchen is my safe haven. When I’ve had a long day, nothing cheers me up more than whipping up a delicious home-cooked meal. The cherry on top is experiencing the smiles from my loved ones after they take their first bite.
My Passions in Life
Besides cooking, my passions are hunting and fishing. My dad taught me how to fish at a young age and my boyfriend taught me how to hunt about 4 years ago. I am incredibly grateful for their guidance and still continue to learn more by the day. Some of my recipes will include fish and wild game because I am infatuated with the never-ending recipes you can create with the animals you can harvest on your own.
I started off my journey in college going to culinary school. I learned a lot of useful information such as the 5 French mother sauces and how to quarter and truss a chicken. However, I felt like an artist in the kitchen. The ingredients were my colors and the plate was my canvas. When I had to cook certain recipes on demand in a certain time period, I began to feel lost and exhausted.
Cooking for my friends and family is so much more rewarding to me. This food blog allows me to release my cooking creativity and be able to share my wonderful recipes with all of you!
